About

The Marxist Theory discipline at Southeast University originated from the Teaching and Research Section of Marxism-Leninism at Nanjing Institute of Technology in 1952. In 1984, it took the lead in launching the undergraduate program in Basic Theories of Marxism nationwide. The School of Marxism was officially established in 2011, undertaking the teaching of ideological and political theory courses, disciplinary development, scientific research, and postgraduate education.


Adhering to the school motto “Promote Dao, Illuminate Truth, Foster Virtue and Cultivate People”, the School is committed to advancing Marxist theory and fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. It has a strong faculty, including nationally recognized scholars and experts involved in theCentral Marxist Theory Research and Development Project, with many teachers awarded provincial-level academic titles and national and provincial teaching honors.


The School has achieved remarkable teaching outcomes, including national teaching achievement awards and national first-class undergraduate courses. Its faculty members have won numerous awards in national and provincial teaching competitions.


Boasting a complete disciplinary system, the School offers PhD and master’s programs in the first-level discipline of Marxist Theory as well as a postdoctoral research station in in Basic Theories of Marxism, which is a key discipline of Jiangsu Province. Supported by four high-level provincial platforms, it has developed four distinctive research directions: studies of basic Marxist theory, studies of the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, studies of traditional Chinese culture and ideological-political education, and frontier studies of Marxism abroad.


The School has attained fruitful research results, undertaking more than 120 national and provincial/ministerial research projects, publishing over 50 monographs and textbooks, and producing more than 600 high-quality academic papers.


Looking ahead, the School will focus on discipline development, ideological and political courses, faculty construction, and scientific research innovation. It aims to build a national first-class base for Marxist theory research and talent cultivation, and strengthen its role as a main channel for fostering virtue through education and a strong support for curriculum-based ideological and political education.
